Welcome to our journey that culminates in the launch of Alamo di Cortona.
We are “Alamo” - also known as Alan and Maureen.
We first traveled to Italy on our honeymoon in 1994, visiting Venice, Florence, Rome and Sardinia. We fell in love with the culture, the people, the food and the Italian way of life. In the following 29 years, we have traveled to countless regions, cities and small towns.
In 2018 we purchased an old stone farmhouse in one of our favorite Tuscan towns - Cortona. Two years later we came upon a for sale sign on a small olive grove that sits at the bottom of the hill of the town of Cortona that had our name on it! Today, we produce the best olive oil that we describe as our “liquid gold.”
But even before we launched Alamo di Cortona our chapter many, many years ago was already written waiting for us to turn the page. I (Alan) grew up around food having worked as a teenager at my mother's cheese shop and catering service in the mid 1980's after arriving to the U.S. from Colombia, South America. After college and law school, I became a lawyer eventually moving into the corporate world which led to founding and running several trading and technology businesses on Wall Street. Maureen’s love of shopping and fashion drew her to retail and then to the wholesale side working in sales, merchandising and product development for a variety of handbag importers.
We now combine our passion for Italy - Tuscany in particular - and food to bring the best artisanal food Italy has to offer. Food made by small producers who focus on quality and not quantity. Small producers who are passionate about what they create and produce. Food after all is about a combination of the quality of the product and the care taken to produce the food.
